Buick Muscle Portfolio 1963-1973

Not every Buick built between 1963 and 1973 qualified as a muscle car, but the division did build some awesome machines in that period. Most enthusiasts would include among them the 1965-1966 Skylark with a 401 option, the 1967-1969 GS 400, the 1970-1971 GSX intermediate, the 1972 GS-455 and thereafter the Gran Sport with a 455 option. These were the cars which added glamour to the Buick name in that 11 year period, providing excitement alongside the basic transport for which GM's Buick division had been traditionally known. In tandem with the Riviera from 1963, they re-wrote the Buick rule book. In this Brooklands Muscle Portfolio, you'll find tests and analyses of all these great cars and of some of the other high-performance contenders which came from Buick's stable in the same period. You'll see how Buick muscle machines were among the front-runners in the second half of the 1960s, and how emissions controls and tightening safety regulations gradually emasculated these cars in the early 1970s. It was the Oil Crisis of 1973-1974 which finally killed off the muscle car genre altogether, but the legend lived on. This book will be a welcome addition to the bookshelf of anyone interested in the high performance Buicks of the muscle-car years, or of anyone interested in muscle cars generally.
